THE CLICKING OF MY NEW YORK YANKEES

The fans never doubt their Yankees, we just want them to perform like they’re supposed to…like champions. The other night, being down 4-0 in the game against the Braves we saw the mood change in Atlanta and while we worried that Alex Rodriguez would whiff or hit into a double play…in our minds, we played the percentages and we knew there was a chance that Alex Rodriguez would reach back and give us what we wanted. He did and after Nick Swisher’s 2 run shot, it was like the New York Yankees just won the World Series again. Two nights ago they won again and they looked real good. Everything worked from pitched to hitting to defense. We held the Braves, we swept the Braves and now the Yankees have won 6 in a row heading into the District of Columbia.

Yankee fans always believe, but when the team's sluggish or don’t show that passion, you really have to wonder what’s up? I did and have for a few weeks now. You know something’s off when the team doesn’t click, but now they are clicking and Yankeeland is happy. The pitching has been great the hitting is great, but again, it’s the home run that’s saving the Bronx bombers, not situational hitting. Again, I love the win, I’ll take the win, but I don’t like dependency on the homer, because sooner or later it doesn’t work and then you don't always win.

Sure we have some minor problems, CC Sabathia doesn’t seen himself lately. Sure, he’s grinding through it and he’s been successful, but those early innings he looks almost like he’s leading us blind. He settles down, he does what a veteran’s supposed to do, but ultimately in games early on, he worries me a bit.

Derek Jeter is facing the reality of not being a .400 hitter. We all knew it would happen, and he’ll be fine, but don’t think I didn’t notice his average drop. Sure it’s dramatic, but let’s not all scream “slump” yet…let’s at least scream “reality.” The Captain will be fine and he’ll get the hits we need, he’s just hit a rough patch, but like I’ve told you so many times, I believe in the captain and always will.

Andy Pettitte looks like he never left, he looks stronger than ever and no doubt without him there would be more concern about the Yankees starting rotation. That being said, he's there and it's glorious. Oh, and Andy... Happy Birthday buddy.

LinkYeah, we’re down Mariano Rivera, but we have Rafael Soriano and everything is fine with that. RaSo wants the ball and wants to be out there and I’ll take that from a player any time. You want the players that want to contribute and Soriano’s contributing and let’s not mess with a good thing. David Robertson is coming back soon and no doubt and that only helps that already stellar bullpen. Guys like Cody Eppley, Cory Wade, Boone Logan, Clay Rapada have come up huge for us and you can see a rhythm like nothing I’ve seen, well, since last year when our pen was incredible.

The New York Yankees are winners. Guys have stepped up, guys that didn’t have the fans full confidence early on have changed minds…Ivan Nova is a monster out there right now. Raul Ibanez is proving the doubters wrong every night. Russell Martin is working out the kinks…he’s continually being terrific defensively and the hits are finally coming…when it counts.

Yup, The Yankees are rolling right now and I believe in my Yankees. After all, they’re the best damn team out there…no question in my mind. The big test is... can we keep rolling?
