(David Phelps)
There is no question that nothing would make me happier then seeing David Phelps pitch his heart out tonight and get the Yankees back in the win column. Phelps seems like a great guy and I think we can all agree has earned this start. Based on 17.2 innings pitched this season (almost equivalent to two full games) Phelps' ERA is 3.57 -- he has struck out 14 batters and only walked 2. Also, he's only given up 12 hits in those 17.2 innings. Not bad at all. You have to figure that if Phelps only surrenders 4 runs and gives us 6+ innings tonight the Yankees should win. Then again, the way the offense is struggling, who knows!

I can only imagine the pressure he must feel taking the mound tonight knowing every single Yankee fan and the entire Yankee organization will be watching pitch-by-pitch. Plus, this is a sort of a homecoming for Phelps. The young right-hander's first career start against the Royals will be in front of a few dozen family members and friends. Phelps grew up in St. Louis which is just about a 2 1/2-hour drive from his home to Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium. Phelps is clearly pumped about this opportunity and who can blame him. "I'm really excited," Phelps said. "I'm trying as much as I can to take it like it's any other game, but it's a big deal for me. It's going to be awesome. I'm gonna have a lot of family there."
Here's hoping this time tomorrow we are discussing why Phelps needs to stay in the starting rotation! Go get 'em David!!!
