Although he did get the loss, Pettitte was not awful today but he did struggle at times and the Mariners made him pay. Granted, it didn't help that the Yankee bats were ice cold scoring just 1 run on 6 hits, but Pettitte gave up 4 runs in 6.1 innings, which included a pair of home runs. Pettitte's arm looked strong and he had decent command all day, but there were a couple pitches he left up and out over the plate that the Mariners took advantage of. Overall, I thought Pettitte's "debut" was a pretty good one and he looks strong. I am anxious to see how he progresses as his arm strength builds. His final line today:
6.1 IP -- 7 Hits -- 4 Runs -- 3 BB -- 2 K -- 94 pitches
Not many bright spots for the Yankees on the offensive side today. Nick Swisher did have a pair of hits and Derek Jeter went 1-4 giving him 3.142 career hits which ties him for 16th on the all time hits list with Robin Yount. But Seattle's veteran starter Kevin Millwood really shut down the Yankees today for 7 strong innings. Millwood only scattered 3 hits and struck out six Yankees.
The Yanks hit the road tomorrow night to begin a series with the Baltimore Orioles. Ivan Nova gets the start for the Yanks looking for his 5th win of the year. Jason Hammel will be on the hill for the O's. Hammels is also looking for his 5th win of the year.
