WHY THE YANKS WILL HAVE TO DO IT WITHOUT OKAJIMA
So Sweeni Murti, who covers the Yankees for WFAN Sportsradio 66 here in NY, just tweeted that left-hander Hideki Okajima has failed his physical and will not be part of the Yankees' Spring Training camp. This probably means the minor league contract Okajima and the Yankees agreed upon last December is also voided.
Okajima spent most of last season in the minors after the Red Sox designated him for assignment in May. He struggled the last two years after posting a great 2.72 ERA in 198 games for Boston between 2007-09 and could have been a useful arm coming out of the Yanks 'pen. Oh well, peace out Hideki and thanks for nothing.
