WHY NEW YORK WILL BE COMPLETE WITH ERIC CHAVEZ

The Yankees are talking to Eric Chavez about coming back to the Bronx. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports says HERE that in the event that Chavez does come back, it will be a major league deal. It's funny, just this weekend there was a report from Joel Sherman that suggested that the Yankees would take 1 but not both when dealing with Chavez or Raul Ibanez. We wrote about that report in WHY THERE MAY ONLY BE ROOM FOR ONE.

We didn't believe it. In fact we're sticking to our firm belief that the Yankees will sign both Raul Ibanez AND Eric Chavez at about $1 million each, plus incentives. In fact, here's our quotes from February 19th:

"... nail down Eric Chavez for $1 million. You really can't go higher on that price tag considering that while Chavez was good for us in 2011 ( 42-160, .260 AVG, 7 2B, 26 RBIs ), he was also hurt a lot of the season. That hurts his contract and I can bet you even Eric Chavez knows that."

"...the Yankees should reach out to Ibanez, if that's who they want, and tell him that at 39 years old on the downside of his career, $1 million should be his contract number, AND, if certain incentives are met, they'll, throw a few more dollars at him based on that."
Nice right? Oh wait, now Andrew Marchand (HERE) just came out with this yesterday:

"The Yankees have agreed on a $1 million plus incentives contract with Raul Ibanez. Now, they can turn their attention to Eric Chavez. ...With that mutual understanding, they have to figure out the money. Considering that Chavez thought about retiring and has plenty of dough, they are expected to come to an agreement."

Damn you Marchand!! Stop reading me! I kid, I kid, but seriously, I hope we're right. I really hope Chavez comes back to the Yanks. Stay tuned.
