WHY ERIC CHAVEZ IS BACK WITH THE YANKEES

Earlier today was an interesting moment for Joe Girardi. He slipped. Look mistakes happen but I never expected it to happen like this. My only thought is Joe Girardi has a lot of his mind and when he spoke about the Yankees as a team earlier today he mentioned Eric Chavez
like he was already part of the ball club...but he wasn't yet. Andrew Marchand has that HERE.

Girardi said: "If you wanted to DH Tex, you could move Swish to first or you could put Chavez at first."

He back tracked a bit after that, but it was clear, he knew Chavez was signed and spoke too soon. No biggie. We find out now that Eric Chavez did in fact re-signing with the Yankees. It's funny because in baseball, guys don't usually say much, they let the pros leak it to the media when it's time to announce. It's funny how things work. Anyway... Jon Heyman of CBS Sports tweeted the deal HERE. It's a major league deal and of course it's pending a physical.

Ken Rosenthal HERE says the deal is worth $900,000 and it includes incentives of course.

The Yankees like Chavez and they know he can help, plus he still has a great bat and he's a former gold glover. He can play 1st base or back up ARod at third. It's a great addition. As you know from reading us at BYB, we told you all that the Yankees would in fact sign both Raul Ibanez and Chavez if they unloaded AJ Burnett. We did, and Yankeeland is happy again.
