SOURCES: IBANEZ DEAL, DETAILS REVEALED
So as we await the results of Raul Ibanez's physical we are learning a bit more about the actual deal and the thought process of the Yankee brass behind the signing. Here's what is being reported by ESPN.com:
*The New York Yankees agreed to a one-year deal with Raul Ibanez worth $1.1 million plus incentives
*Ibanez can make up to $4 million total with the incentives
*The Yankees plan to use Ibanez as a left-handed designated hitter
*The Yanks claim the reason they chose Ibanez over Damon was defense and more HR power.
*Ibanez will play against righties (maybe 300 AB's), but will sit a lot against lefties because Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter, among others, will take half-days as DH.
Look, I know there are many fans who wished we signed Damon instead of Ibanez. But I think we can all agree on one thing, the Yankee lineup is a bit stronger than it was two days ago and that's a good thing!
