YU DARVISH, TEXAS RANGER
Moments ago Jon Heyman tweeted that the Texas Rangers sealed the deal with Japanese phenom pitcher Yu Darvish and they are just working out the final details. Heyman reports Darvish and Rangers will agree to six years, $60 million. The agreement includes bonuses that could be worth another $10 million, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports tweets. That's on top of the reported $51.7 million the Rangers already paid simply for the right to negotiate with Darvish.
Look, there is no question Darvish has put up incredible numbers over his five year career in Japan. Darvish posted a 1.44 ERA with 10.7 K/9 and 1.4 BB/9 in 232 innings this past season and he hasn't posted an ERA above 2.00 since 2007. But we have seen the over hype before of these Japanese pitchers who come over and just don't pan out in MLB. Will Darvish break the streak? We shall see.
