WHY IT'S NOT OVER FOR JOHNNY... DAMON

Sure, I would have suggested that the chances were slim to none that a Yankee/Johnny Damon reunion would happen, but not after the Yankees just shipped Jesus Montero to Seattle for Michael Pineda (Read HERE.) Now, having Johnny back to DH and sometimes play the outfield makes perfect sense to me... at the right price of course. Why? Well, who the hell else is going to DH now that Brian Cashman gave away the guy that he told all Yankee fans he'd want to get 500 at bats this season. See? Cashman's a liar and I've been telling you that for a year now. He does his job better than anyone, never shows his cards and always makes moves that try and better our New York Yankees. But more on that in another post... this one's about Johnny Damon.

You can’t deny it, Johnny Damon had an OK season in 2011 and if the right 1 year deal were presented to Damon, what’s to say Johnny couldn't come back to the New York Yankees one more time? Damon still has a bat and while he’s getting older, one thing he can still do is hit. The Yankees bench is slim right now and if you couple that with the Tampa Bay Rays signing Luke Scott instead, that’s got to sting for Johnny. According to this report, Damon was “unhappy” about that signing saying he was really expecting an offer, but it never happened...according to him. Read about it HERE.

Look, once a Yankee, always a Yankee and Johnny Damon was part of a truly great Yankees team in 2009. Sure, he was a Red Sock, but like Roger Clemens and Wade Boggs before him, these guys truly contributed to championship Yankee teams, and shouldn’t be forgotten. Look, I’m not saying we should feel sorry for Johnny Damon and sign him based on that. I’m saying we know what he has to offer and we should consider signing the guy at a reasonable price to contribute as a DH. Why not? Having a lefty like Johnny could prove important in certain situations.

Last season Johnny batted .261 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI's. If there is ever a guy that needs to get back to the Bronx for alittle reunion, Johnny's the guy you want there, plus, alittle veteran expertise on the bench never hurt any team, especially if you sprinkle in youngsters like Eduardo Nunez around him.

In this New York Yankees world that changed before our eyes on Friday the 13th, one thing's for sure, one has to ask.. is it over Johnny? I say no, it’s not… not for Johnny Damon.
