WHY I CAN'T FORGET THE GIBBYs

Geez. Well, it’s about time. Some Yankees won some awards and while individual awards don’t always mean a lot to baseball players, it’s important to us Yankee fans who have basically seen our Yankees voted out of most awards this fall. Look, you know where I stand and many agree...it's anti-Yankee bias. You can disagree and that’s why we write this blog. I respect you disagreeing, but I just didn’t like the way Yankees got the shaft...that's what she said...

Anyway, the Gibbys (Greatest in Baseball Yearly Awards) were unveiled and congratulations to Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano and David Robertson, they are all deserving. Read HERE.

This year Yankeeland fell in love with David Robertson. He was great and never let the bullpen fail. When Rafael Soriano went down, he jumped right in, contributed and never gave up. "Houdini" is by far one of my favorite in the Yankees up and coming "Core Four." I hate to use that so loosely, especially with our of respect for Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter who are still part of the original Core Four, but no doubt, a New Core is emerging. David Robertson is one of them for sure. If you get a second, be sure to read EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: HIGH SOCKS FOR HOPE and donate if you can.

Derek Jeter is a true leader. He's won individual awards before, that that's not important to him... winning championships is. If you don't like Derek Jeter because of that, you don't have a true respect for hte game of baseball. He had a great 2011, he carries himself the Yankee way, and I suspect he'll explode again in 2012. I can't wait.

Robinson Cano. For me, Cano is another portion of the new Core Four. He’s a leader and once Derek Jeter decides that he is ready to walk away from Yankee Stadium for good, I know Robinson Cano will be the new Captain of the New York Yankees. He’s proved himself. Last season was sensational and him winning the Home Run Derby, while just a glorified contest that doesn’t mean a thing, was significant for 1 reason and 1 reason only… he and his father provided something that just gave me chills. It’s that bond of a father and son that really touched me. It’s the true story of a father getting back alittle something after all the hard work it took to get results in his child. You can tell Cano respects his father and wearing the pinstripes as well, and you have to admire that.

So congratulations guys. You deserve everything that comes your way and we love having you as part of true leadership on the New York Yankees! Now lets get out there in 2012 and get us another championship!
