WHY BEANTOWN MAY SNAG ANDRUW JONES

Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News had the story first I believe and the idea of any Yankee going to Boston has always bothered me. How about you? I remember when David Cone went to Boston. Now, this is a totally different type of situation because Cone was a true Yankee, playing in the Bronx for several years and winning with us and we all fell in love with Cone playing in pinstripes all those years. Then he went to Beantown in 2001 and I just couldn't except it. Let's face it though, in 2001, I was younger; I was truly obsessed with the Yankees, I didn't have kids to support and I just didn't understand why. Now, having children and working in this economy, I understand a ballplayer wanting a job and I get Cone wanting to keep on playing. I learned to forgive David Cone and I get it now. But I digress.

Feinsand's piece about Andruw Jones, while troubling (Read HERE), doesn't surprise me. Mark writes:

"The Yankees have stayed in touch with Jones’ agent, Scott Boras, but a source said the two sides have not made much progress despite the mutual desire for a reunion. The source added that “several” other teams have expressed interest in the 34-year-old outfielder — one of which is believed to be the rival Red Sox.

Like the Yankees, the Red Sox are searching for a righthanded power bat to share time in the outfield, a role Jones filled admirably last season in New York."

Look, Cashman's dragging his feet and Scott Boras, while he's been friendly with the Yankees in the past and still a businessman and he's going to do what's best for Jones...and himself. Do I think Jones will come back to the Bronx? I do, but I also understand the need to want to be wanted and if the Yankees are not trying to hammer out a deal, what else is left to talk about...Jones should move on, it's business. It sucks, but it's true. That being said, I don't think the Yankees should be bending over backwards. There needs to be a common ground and it doesn't sound like there is. It sounds like right now they still just "like" each other. Jones needs to work with the Yankees too you know, especially if he's interested in staying in New York. And by the way, it's not only Boston that likes what Jones can offer, the Rockies are looking at him closely too...read HERE.

Boras is no dummy, he'd talk to a paper bag is it means he wants to light a fire under the Yankees ass to sign his client... The question is though, are the Yankees not interested in resigning Jones, or are they just tired of dealing with Scott Boras? Stay tuned...
