WHY THE YANKEES PUSH TO BRING FREDDY BACK

Just moments ago, it was reported by our favorite, Marc Carig from the Star-Ledger that the Yankees offered arbitration to Freddy Garcia. Read about it HERE. I'm not going to write a bunch of stuff right now because I'm going to the parade tomorrow, but in a nutshell this is from Marc:

"By offering Garcia arbitration, the Yankees will receive a supplemental round draft pick as compensation if the pitcher declines the offer and signs elsewhere. Garcia, 35, has expressed interest in re-signing with the Yankees, though he will be due a raise after going 12-8 with a 3.62 ERA last season."

Now all we can do is wait on Freddy who has told the media that he would like to resign with the Yankees. It is important to mention however that the Red Sox have requested Garcia's medical records. We will have to see what comes of that.
The other news is the Yanks signed Jayson Nix to a minor league deal. Nix is a utility guy. Again, this is from Marc's piece:

"By signing Nix, the Yankees hope to bolster competition for a utility man spot on the bench. Nix, 29, was the 44th overall pick in the 2001 draft. He has shown signs of power, finishing with double-digit home run totals in 2009 and 2010. But he has a .207 average over his four major league seasons with the Rockies, White Sox, Indians and Blue Jays. He will likely compete with the likes of Ramiro Pena and Eduardo Nunez for a big league roster spot."

Juat like Cashman... making moves when no one expects it... I mean, it is Thanksgiving eve for crying out loud.
