WHY THE YANKEES NEED TO DECIDE ON MONTERO NOW

What Yankee fan isn't excited by what you saw in Jesus Montero this season?  Granted we have not seen the young man play for an entire season at the Major League level but the writing is on the wall:  Jesus Montero will be an All Star many times over.  Montero showed tremendous power in his short time up in the Bronx along with a sweet swing.

But this blog is not about how good I feel Jesus Montero will be in 2012.  Nor is it about which position he should play or what his place should be in the batting order.  The reason I am writing this blog is to make a plea to Joe Girardi, Brian Cashman, and all of the Yankee brass:  Please do not play with this kids head!  I am begging you, for the sake of Jesus Montero's future and our 2012 Yankee team, make up your minds sooner rather than later about whether he will be a Yankee next year or not.  And, if he is going to be wearing the pinstripes, figure out what his role is.  Just like when we all got our first look at Joba Chamberlain we know this kid has outstanding potential.  But when these young players are left in limbo and pulled in 8 different directions it messes with their mental state which carries over to their physical abilities.

Look, I am not accusing the Yankees of ruining good, young players.  Lord knows we have had some of the greatest home grown players come out of our farm system.  I mean, look no further then our "Core Four", Mo, Bernie, Mattingly, Cano, and the list goes on.  But you have to admit, for whatever reason, sometimes there seems to be too many Yankee chefs in the kitchen when it comes to the development of our minor league studs.  I think it is so important for Jesus Montero to know what his role will be with this 2012 Yankee team.  The longer you tell him that you aren't sure if he will catch, be a DH, or perhaps have to learn another position, the longer he loses his focus on hitting.   There is so much that goes on in a player's life when he is preparing for a season.  And depending on which position will determine a lot on workouts and diets a player dedicates himself  too during the off season, as well as the mental preparation.

Now, of course, we continue to hear that Jesus Montero is trade bait #1 and I also find this very distressing.  What could be worse for this kid than to first, not know what your possible role is with the 2012 Yankees, and second, not even know if you will be with the 2012 Yankees?  Yankees, I beg you!  I am pleading with you!  Please do not ruin Jesus Montero.  Either take him off the trade block or trade him already.  And, if he is staying with the Yankees (which I pray he is), please let him know his role ASAP so the discussion this upcoming Spring in Yankeeland isn't, "what role does Montero play?" but rather, "How many home runs do you think Montero hits?".
