WHY THE YANKEES WON: ART OF PATIENCE

(Photo: Getty)
The Yankees won tonight and they clawed back against a very tough Tampa Bay Rays team to do it. To me, the comeback was big, but the patience and confidence at the plate was huge.

AJ Burnett wasn't awesome but 1 thing he was able to do was keep the Yankees in the game, along with the Yankee bullpen. it didn't get about of control. It was manageable. If this was a playoff game, I would be OK with the runs early because the Rays are a good ball club and I would know that we would have our best guys on the field, like Alex Rodriguez for instance and maybe we'd even have a steady DH, etc. Well, tonight the Yankees didn't have their best team on the field, but it wasn't about power tonight, it was about manufacturing runs, confidence and patience and it was a beautiful thing.

Brett Gardner continues his hot hot hitting and he was able to give the Yankees a run on a hit when they needed it most, plus I love his speed. Check this out; Gardner's now 2nd in the American League in stolen bases with 27. He's been successful 13 times in a row. Got to love what Gardy is doing for the Yankees right now.

Poor Tex is struggling and I hate to see the guy like this. It always seems like he is either very very hot or ice cold, there is no in between with him. Mark Teixeira was batting only .240 coming into tonight's game. Wow is all I have to say. The best thing to happen to Tex tonight was the sweet catch in the first base line stands to end the game with the last out. Mo got his 24th save.OK, and what is up with Russell Martin and the mustache? Is it supposed to honor Burt Reynolds? Is it supposed to be good luck? Maybe it is, because he was the guy at the plate with the bases loaded and was able to work a walk to let he go ahead run come home in the 9th. We pulled ahead 5-4 at that point, Granderson scored.

By the way, Curtis Granderson has 2 runs and 2 stolen bases and was 2-3. Ill take that. Love this guy.

Hector Noesi did a good job tonight keeping the Rays from scoring and DRob was great tonight again, a good 8th inning. 1 inning pitched, o hits allowed and 2 strikeouts. The kids alright in my book.(Photo: Getty)
Then came Mo. I stare at Mariano Rivera every time he pitches and he's pretty amazing to me. The guy is in he 40's and he goes out there with the same delivery and the same pitch his entire career and just mows them down. He looks the same as he did in 1997. Another save tonight in a big win at the Trop, good for him.

Final Score tonight: Yankees 5 - Rays 4. The Yankees have won 3 in a row. Very nice guys, keep it up.
