WHY CC'S EFFORT WAS ALL FOR NAUGHT

CC Monster is my guy. He takes over a ball game and never looks back. I love him as our ace and he clearly had control of the game tonight. Gritty performance. Bravo. So, you're asking... why did they take him out? Simply, it's April 5th and pitchers need to be stretched out just like you do before you go for a run. By CC's 4th start, you will see him out there much longer, it's just the way it goes right now.At the time, it really didn't matter, we were cruising. This is clearly a great New York Yankee team and everything clicked early tonight. CC was dynamite, Mark Teixeira literally has flames coming off him he's so hot, hitting number 4 tonight and showing no signs of slowing. And welcome to the Bronx Andruw Jones. You used to kill us as an Atlanta Brave and now your slapping out home runs for the Yankees. It must feel great.

Now, the Yanks clearly had it in the bag, but things changed tonight, the bullpen wasn't stellar and that sucks. RaSo got into some trouble tonight and the last thing you want to do this early in the season is wear out your bullpen. So, Girardi did what he was supposed to do, bring in Robertson, who every loves and unfortunately he couldn't get the big out.
Now you can sit there and yell all day long about how David Robertson had to get single out and blew the game. Maybe you even want to say Robertson sucks. I don't see it that way at all, in fact, I disagree. The bases were loaded. Yes, it's Robertson's job to get the out, but it's RaSo's job to get the outs as well and he didn't and everyone knows, including Soriano, this games on him.

Look, it happens, bullpens implode and tonight was a perfect example, but let's get back to what wins Championships... the Series. The Twins win tonight, while it stings, ties the Series at 1 a piece. Tomorrow we win the Series and we move on. Keep doing that, and we will be playoff contenders. Keep your eye on the prize, not 1 bad game in April.

You can't slam the New York Yankees for having a bad game. After all, we could be 0-4 and from Boston. Clearly, we have a great ballclub. Tonight sucks, but you turn the page... we hand the ball to AJ or Garcia and you put your best team on the field tomorrow and win.

The worst part about tonight was CC Monster's great game was wasted. Soriano should be over at CC's locker right now apologizing and hugging it out. It was a waste to see such great pitching go down the drain the way it did, but as Sterling says "dem the brakes." You win some, you lose some, but in the end you need to win more and we will, don't panic, it's one game.
Final Score tonight Twins 5 - Yankees 4.

Everyone needs to smile in Yankeeland. Yes, it's true, no one likes a loser and guess what, we're not losers. We just hit a speed bump but we come back tomorrow balls out and hardcore. We're the God Damn New York Yankees. Don't forget that.

  2. Good recap Casey..only thing I would add is why did Girardi bring Soriano in? Twitter was buzzing last nigth when he brought Soriano in the game. People were questioning what Soriano's role is, etc. But in the end, everyone agreed, Soriano had to throw strikes and he just didn't. Good news is the Red Sox still lost! Go Yanks!!!

  3. Great post BYB. I recognize the thought of not wanting to stretch out starters this early in the season, but CC could have gone another inning. He continued to fool the Twins with his changeup and slider, and he kept his fastball at 92-93, which means he didn't feel much fatigue. I think he could have gone at least 2/3 of the 8th and then instead of bringing in Soriano, bring in Robertson. If Robertson happens to let anyone score, then it becomes Mo's game.

But, at the end of the day, pitchers have to do their job, and RaSo didn't do his last night. And is it just me being impatient, or does Boone Logan look really bad right now?
