We've reported about Yoan Moncada before. He's the 19 year old Cuban player, a shortstop, that is supposed to be just simply fantastic.

Read  WILL THE YANKEES SNAG CUBAN, YOAN MONCADA? for more. We wrote that in November, and nothing really has changed; the Yankees like him, and he's still young and talented.

Right now we know that the Yankees and the Red Sox are the "favorites" to land Moncada.  The rivalry continues!

Seriously though, if the Yankees can get him, that would be great. According to Fangraphs:
Now, we've been down this road with the Yankees and Cuban players before.  We'll have to be cautiously optimistic here.  Hopefully it happens though. Ben Badler of Baseball America once said that Moncada has impressive power and speed.

There is one major hold up in this whole pursuit of Moncada though. It's him getting clearance to sign.  At this point, he can't because, according to Hardball Talk, "he has not received official clearance from the United States’ Office of Foreign Assets Control and won’t be able to start negotiating with teams until he gets that clearance."

There's always something... isn't there?

Stay tuned.  When we hear something about Moncada, trust me, you will know. Promise.
