DEREK JETER ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE

I'd follow Derek Jeter anywhere. When I read about Jeter being asked if he'll continue playing after the Yankees, perhaps on another team (read HERE), he said he would and I'm not surprised. Here's the quote:

"Well, if I wanted to keep playing, yeah. It's a business. People forget that."

But do I think the Yankees would let him walk especially as hot as he's been and as close he is to possibly beating Pete Rose hits record as a New York Yankee? No. No way.

The Yankees will do what they can to keep him in pinstripes until the end and Derek Jeter isn't exactly packing his bags. The media blew this up big time yesterday because it's a nugget that Yankee fans will gravitate to, but this is a non-story.  Why? Because Rick Reilly's question was baiting.  Rick Reilly asked Jeter if in the wake of Peyton Manning moving from the Colts to the Broncos late in his career, would Jeter also consider it.  OK. So, lets be honest. Of course Jeter would "consider" it. So Reilly took the quote he liked to cause a stir in Yankeeland.  We don't know if there was a followup by Reilly, we don't know if Jeter actually said, "But I'm a Yankee for life", after that, we don't know because Reilly only gave us what he wanted to. Reilly made a story. There's nothing wrong with that, but that's not what Jeter believes, and all of us truly know that.  Don't read into it ladies and gentlemen because before last night's game, like clockwork, it was confirmed by Jeter:

"You understand what the reference is: Peyton had no choice, so if he's going to continue to play, he's got to go somewhere else... I think it's comical that we're talking about it after I've told you guys time and time again that I can't picture myself playing anywhere else. Have fun with it."

Bryan Hoch had that HERE. Jeter's no dummy. He's been around long enough to know when the media is baiting him. You gotta love it.  Look, this is a good marriage and while Derek Jeter had stated that "it's a business", meaning baseball is, he's right. But don't forget, Jeter's with the team bringing him the biggest business of them all, the Yankees, and the Yankees are getting a big payback with Jeter as well.

Plus, consider this; the Yankees and Jeter will work it out and they'll be together when Jeter breaks or attempts to break Pete Rose's hits record. That's not only big money coming into the Yankees organization, there are ways contracts can reflect incentives and the all-time hits record, as crazy as this might sound, could in fact be a pretty big incentive right there. Sure, last year I wasn't thinking about any of this. The word on the street was Jeter was winding down. This year though, it's a different story. Jeet looks amazing and it's clear, he isn't going anywhere with his ability OR with him hometown...the Bronx.  He knows that, the Yankees know that and despite Reilly's best effort to make us worry, we know that too.

So don't worry Yankee fans, our Captain will stay. There's money to be made and rings to be won right here in New York and despite Rick Reilly molding the story his way, the Yankees will always be Derek Jeter's home, Trust me.

Remember... Derek Jeter will be a New York Yankee for life...
