Mark Buehrle would be open to pitching in the Bronx; this according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News. But let's face facts, Mark Buehrle will pitch for any team because he'll need a job. Yes, I am a firm believer that Buehrle will stay right in Chicago where he is loved by the fans and where he loves to pitch, but if the right offer came along, say by the Nationals, or the Cubs or even the mighty New York Yankees, what's to say he wouldn't walk? Anyway, read Feinsand HERE.
I am constantly reminded that while the Yankees have CC Sabathia at the top of the rotation, they really need a top pitcher or 2 to get them to AJ Burnett, assuming he's staying, or Phil Hughes to finish out the 5 man rotation. Brian Cashman said yesterday on the Dan Patrick Show that CJ Wilson was clearly the most attractive free agent, and he's not giving anything away by saying that, but it's not exactly Brian Cashman's nature these days to just go out and offer big money for a free agent. The last time that happened was with CC, AJ and Teixeira and since then, it's been about patience.I don't see Cashman running out to snag CJ Wilson, although, that stability would be nice. Plus, I don't see Wilson running away from Texas. Texas would be stupid to let him walk and he can still get a pay day there. Cashman doesn't want to pay big money this off season. I really believe that. I do however see Cashman trying to snag a Mark Buehrle at a lesser price. Couple Buehrle in a rotation with the already studly Ivan Nova, AJ, Phil Hughes or Freddy Garcia and it could be a very quiet winter for the New York Yankees if that were to happen. The Yankees want to win it all, this is true, but the Yankees problem in the postseason was not pitching, it was hitting. My point is Brian Cashman likes his rotation believe it or not and while he can pick up a bargain for someone like Mark Beuhrle instead of giving tons of money for CJ Wilson, it makes more sense to Cash.
Buehrle is a lefty, Buehrle is a gamer and while Buehrle isn't the Buehrle he once was, he's friggin' Mark Buehrle all the same and I'd love to see him as our #2 or #3, depending on where they want to see Ivan Nova next season. Buehrle knows how to win. That's what I love about him, plain and simple.
There is no question in my mind Mark Buehrle is looking at New York as his next home, and there is no doubt Brian Cashman is thinking about it bringing him here. Could it be a new marriage? I say yes, but at what cost?
