Baseball has always been my passion and I took a moment to think about what my 4 favorite baseball films were of all time. It was hard, but the ones I chose truly affected my life and I could relate to alot of the momentS in each. Here's my list 4 to 1.
#4. The Sandlot (1993): A bunch of kids getting together to play baseball all day in the summer? Who didn't do that and love every minute of it? It's those summers that all of us look back on and smile and to me, that film hits home. I love the characters because we all had them in our lives. Plus, how many people had a dog next door who was nasty and you were deathly afraid to get the ball back? Love this film, it's my 4th favorite baseball film of all time.
#3. Field of Dreams (1989): Amazing film. If you believe in something strong enough you can accomplish anything, even if the world is against you. Baseball was Ray's passion and in the end, he wasn't so crazy after all, was he? I wish I could find a really good clip, but I wasn't able to. Just know this, if you haven't seen Field of Dreams, you should.
#2. The Bad News Bears (1976): Every person that loves the game of baseball has been on a team like the Bad News Bears, but over time, your team improves and you go against the odds and do the impossible, you believe in yourself and win. Buttermaker is a drunk and a former ballplayer who never made it anywhere in the pros, but one thing he knows is baseball and while the team is a mess, he believes in those kids and at the end of the day, he puts in the players that may not be talented, but are in fact ballplayers. Win or lose, it doesn't matter, what matters is they tried. Great scene below, ironically it's the Yankees that win it all:
#1. The Natural (1984): By far, my favorite baseball movie of all time. Any baseball film that can make me cry like a girl is hands down incredible because it brings every feeling of the game to me and every emotion I have about the game to it. Roy Hobbs, while fictional is larger than life and you walk away believing he existed. Randy Newman's soundtrack very well may be his best ever. If you've never seen the film, see it. What's your favorite baseball film? Many tell me Major League is theirs and it's great, don't get me wrong, but it's not in my top 4 and that's what I was going for in this post. Comment and tell me yours and why.
