ALEXI RAMIREZ MAY JUST BE WHAT THE YANKEES NEED

Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago says that there's a real high demand for shortstop Alexi Ramirez and the Yankees are one of the teams interested in the Shortstop.

He writes: "The White Sox have heard from numerous major league clubs about the availability of shortstop Alexei Ramirez, the 33-year-old All-Star who has been high on the list of several big-market teams. The interested teams include the Mets, Yankees and Dodgers. All of these franchises are looking for a reliable shortstop to anchor their infields."

Now, we last heard about Alexi Ramirez when we published THINKING ABOUT SHORTSTOP WITHOUT DEREK JETER in 2013.  In it, BYB wrote:

"As (Nick) Cafardo (Boston Globe) stated in his piece (HERE), the White Sox Shortstop Alexi Ramirez would be a great idea for the Yankees:  "The Yankees could turn out to be the best fit since they eventually will need a replacement for Derek Jeter, who could wind up DHing a lot next season. The Yankees may have problems making something happen because of their weak farm system."

True, Ramirez is a decent choice."

Now he pops up 1 year later, but now Ramirez would BE the shortstop.

We'll have to see if this rumor has legs.

Side note... Jeter played shortstop for the Yankees in all of 2014 up to literally a few days before the last game of the season.  Cafardo was pretty wrong about that, huh?

THINKING ABOUT SHORTSTOP WITHOUT DEREK JETER

This is just a quick nugget from our friend Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.  Apparently he is looking ahead.  Hey, I get it, Derek Jeter can't be our shortstop forever...we wrote about it in IS THIS THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR OUR CAPTAIN?

No, we're not pushing the Captain away, we just are in a reality state... sooner or later Jeet may not be able to man shortstop.  As Cafardo stated in his piece (HERE), the White Sox Shortstop Alexi Ramirez would be a great idea for the Yankees:  "The Yankees could turn out to be the best fit since they eventually will need a replacement for Derek Jeter, who could wind up DHing a lot next season. True, Ramirez is a decent choice.  I do wonder though if the Yankees really and truly believe that Eduardo Nunez is the Yankee future shortstop. There is no question that repetition in a position helps a player develop, but I am not as sold on Nunez has many others are.  Whatever the case, we shall see.
