Let’s take a moment to appreciate the absolute clinic the Yankees pitching staff has been putting on lately. They’ve been carving up lineups like a Ginsu knife through hot butter. And speaking of carving—Max Fried, you magnificent beast—you didn’t just beat the Mets and Juan Soto the other night… you dominated them. That was less of a game and more of a live-action Discovery Channel special. Total animal.
Now, as if the Yankees needed more good news on the mound, we’ve got an encouraging update on Luis Gil. Aaron Boone says Gil is staying on track with his throwing program and could be back on a mound in 2-3 weeks. Yes, I know—we’ve heard that “2-3 weeks” line before, and I’ve got trust issues because of it. But hey, let’s be optimistic (or at least cautiously hopeful).
If all goes according to plan, Gil might rejoin the rotation in June or July. And what a boost that would be. The kid was filthy in 2024—AL Rookie of the Year, 5th in Cy Young voting, 151.2 innings of serious heat with a 3.50 ERA, and 171 strikeouts.
His fastball sat at 96.6 mph, and apparently, he found a new low arm slot to unleash his chaos from. Respect.
Here’s hoping he comes back ready to build on his impressive debut—and maybe cut down on those walks a bit (just saying). If he can recapture that form, this rotation might just be unfair.
We'll believe Boone's timeline when we see it—but fingers crossed. Let’s get Gil back and let the dominance resume.
