CONSISTENT CABRERA NEEDS TO STAY A YANKEE!

Oswaldo Cabrera may not be a superstar, but he’s the kind of player every team needs: consistent, versatile, and willing to do whatever the Yankees ask of him. That selflessness and dependability embody the makings of a good soldier, and it’s a big reason why Cabrera remains a valuable part of the roster.

While Cabrera isn’t going to be the centerpiece of the Yankees’ lineup, he provides solid contact hitting and an occasional spark. In 2024, he slashed .247/.296/.365 with an 88 wRC+, slightly below league average. Those numbers may not stand out, but his switch-hitting ability brings much-needed balance to a lineup that has historically leaned heavily on right-handed power hitters.

At just 25 years old, there’s still room for improvement. Cabrera has time to refine his plate approach and become a more consistent hitter. His ability to hit for a decent average, coupled with his positional flexibility, makes him a reliable plug-and-play option—a safety net for a team that often finds itself searching for dependable infield depth.

The Yankees, for all their rumored interest in star second and third basemen, have yet to pull the trigger on a major acquisition. Why? Likely because they know they have a tremendous fallback option in Cabrera, as well as players like DJ LeMahieu and Oswald Peraza. Cabrera’s versatility and affordability make him an ideal insurance policy in the Yankees’ deep lineup.

Reports surfaced recently suggesting the Yankees had fielded trade inquiries about Cabrera. However, those calls didn’t lead to anything significant, likely because the offers didn’t match his value. Unless Cabrera becomes the final piece in a blockbuster deal, the Yankees have little reason to move him.

With a team-friendly contract and club control through 2029, Cabrera represents a cost-effective, long-term asset for a franchise that has struggled to find versatile, reliable contributors in recent years. He may not grab the headlines, but players like Oswaldo Cabrera are essential for building a competitive team—and the Yankees know it.
