But why doesn't Hal Steinbrenner know this? Despite resounding cries to fire both Cashman and Boone, a source close to Hal claims they already know what Hal is going to do, you can read that HERE. According to this unnamed source, Cashman will be back, the idea of firing him "isn't even on the table. It's not up for discussion." No one is surprised by this.... we all know Steinbrenner is stupidly loyal to him but we can still be frustrated. Accountability should matter, but apparently it doesn't for Hal.
But Hal is soft and now we have a quote from an insider. "Firing people is not in Hal's nature," the person said. "To this point, he's been content to let Cashman make the decisions. He trusts him. And he happens to like Boone personally, too." He's definitely not like his father, George. Too bad he doesn't have the same high expectations and the drive to win. He's not a leader. He doesn't inspect what he expects and hold his people accountable.
They may want to play for him (he is soft after all, more proof of no accountability), but they don't want to win for him. This team lacks passion, especially when Aaron Judge isn't playing.
Then in June he tried to sound authoritative and gave a warning. He said if the Yankees were healthy in the second half and saw a representative team on the field but still failed to make the playoffs then "I'm going to be asking some tough questions." Time is quickly running out.
The clock is ticking. There are 47 games left, and if the Yankees fail to make the postseason Hal should man up and do what needs to be done and fire his so-called leaders.....but he won't. He's soft. He wants to be everyone's friend....he doesn't want to be a champion and that really ticks me off. This is not the Yankee way.
