TIMID IS NO WAY TO COMPETE & "FEARLESS" TORRES KNOWS THAT

Say what you will about Gleyber Torres, but this guy was a one-time MLB.com No. 24 overall prospect when the Cubs had him and then the Yanks snagged him by giving up Adolis Chapman a bit ago.  

He's had his moments of greatness, but he's also stalled.  What ya'll forget to remember is that this guy is only 26 years old. And to be honest with you I feel that his really good years are coming... probably between age 27 and 31.  I say that because he's really coming into his own in the Major Leagues. I mean sure, there are going to be mistakes, but he's finding his way, he' a solid teammate, and there's one more thing he is... he's aggressive... a competitor, a future leader.

People want this guy gone. They say he's a knucklehead, makes too many errors, etc. I say, I want him to stay in the Bronx for a long time. Yesterday was a perfect example of why. The New York Post writes:

The run gave the Yankees a 4-3 lead in the same inning in which they saw their 3-0 lead dissipate.

Stanton’s single — a hard-hit grounder up the middle — did not go to the wall and stayed in front of Orioles center fielder Cedric Mullins, who fielded it cleanly...

Boone said: “Gleyber does have a knack for doing those kinds of things because he’s fearless.”

He ignored third-base coach Luis Rojas’ stop sign, blowing right past it as he rounded third. Mullins threw the ball into second base, seemingly not expecting Torres to try and score."

But that was the difference in the game.  Honestly, it was Torres that helped ignite the win.  And I have news for you, it's moments like that, moments like the energy of a Harrison Bader, a Anthony Rizzo that really can help move this team forward.  The bullshit call arguing with umpires from Aaron Boone? That's theater.... we don't need it.  We need true competitors... and that's what Torres showed yesterday.

If he didn't make it, to be honest, I would be equally proud that he gave it a shot.  Look, we need hardnosed baseball right now. The Yankees are 8 games back.  Competitive Baseball is important.  You can talk about worry about getting hurt and I say, why are we playing this game if we're not playing hard?

I tip my cap to Torres. It was big... maybe even bigger than you think.  You have to hope it ignites this Yankee team to go harder and go further!
