The Yankees did it! They signed their first baseman for a deal and it's not Freddie Freeman. Oh well. Let's be clear however... Anthony Rizzo is no slouch and I love the guy.

"According to ESPN's Jesse Rogers, the Yankees have agreed to terms with Anthony Rizzo on a new contract, pending a physical. Rizzo is receiving a two-year deal, worth $32 million, with an opt out after the first year...What is important, as Rogers mentions in the tweet above, that Rizzo can choose to opt out after the 2022 season. If he does have a strong campaign with the Yankees, he could very well decide to hit free agency again.
Additionally, MLB Network's Jon Heyman tweeted out that the Yankees had the "clear impression" that Freeman preferred not to come to New York."
Then comes Jon Heyman's guess. He's as bad as Nightengale sometimes. Sure, maybe Freeman didn't want to come to New York, or maybe the Yankees realized Rizzo is a real option and much cheaper.
Whatever the case, let's be clear Yankee fans. When Rizzo came to the Yankees last year we loved the move. And so what's not to love in 2022?
At the end of the day, as much as I love Freeman, it wasn't in the cards and I'm fine with it. Let the Mets have him. Bottom line, Rizzo is gonna be great and I appreciate it!
