I feel like I am holding on to every new rumor I see out on social media. At this point, it is a sign of hope for the start of baseball again and I will take it. There's noting wrong with buying into a good rumor that perks you up, especially in trying times like these.
So we have already speculated one idea in REJOICE! THERE IS A PLAN FOR THE START OF THE SEASON but now there may be yet another one. Here's something else that has social media buzzing after Matt Spiegel of 670 The Score Chicago posted on Twitter.
Again, all tentative and out in the rumor world BUT all things considered it is good news right? I think when you break down the schedule and really take a look at it, the idea of a season of more than 100 games is becoming less likely. Once Coronavirus finally calms down players are essentially going to need another version of Spring Training. Once games get going, it feels like 100 games could be possible with the season starting July 1st and regular season ending around mid-October. That would allow teams about two off days a month (which sounds scary, honestly) and MLB can be strategic with some doubleheaders.
Now is it realistic? I don't know but the optimist in me is going to embrace it. Anything that gives us the hope for baseball to come back I will embrace. But again, I am an optimist, definitely not a epidemiological expert but it's an idea. I would definitely call this proposal more likely than squeezing 130+ games in. Even this plan will likely require some form of an expanded roster and possibly starting the games in an empty stadium. If games do start with empty stadiums I won't even complain about that. After all, some form of baseball is better than none at all.

Not to get too carried away by any of this, we are talking about an extremely complex situation here. There's a lot to figure out but considering that the London Series scheduled for mid-June was just cancelled hearing this rumor floating around does give me at least a little bit of confidence. Commissioner Rob Manfred has said that the league is going to have to get creative for this season.....and this idea is definitely creative.
Stay tuned everyone, and cross your fingers for more good news and updates to come.
