James Paxton has been an absolute waste, hasn't he?
But don't worry... everyone blame Brian Cashman for not getting a top starter at the trade deadline. Here's the problem with that... We needed a top starter in the off season... AND WE SIGNED JAMES PAXTON. Remember this? Well... he literally hasn't shown up yet.
Maybe it's the pressure of New York, or maybe... maybe he's just not that good. Only the future with this guy will tell us for sure. But right now, the Yanks need James Paxton big time.
Yahoo Sports has this...
"James Paxton can save GM Brian Cashman and Co. if he steps up and pitches like the No. 1 starter he was acquired to be down the stretch — and into the postseason. The pressure is officially on — and it will only rise from here.
To date, Big Maple has largely disappointed during his first year in The Big Apple.
Paxton looked like his dominant self while striking out 12 in back-to-back scoreless outings in mid-April.
But since missing nearly a month due to knee inflammation, the 30-year-old lefty has posted a 5.88 ERA and allowed 14 homers and a .961 OPS against in 11 starts.
Rocky first innings have continually plagued him, as has an inconsistent command of his fastball he feels is starting to come around again. In his last two starts, he’s allowed 14 runs combined.
'I haven’t pitched very well here at all, and I’ll be the first one to tell you that I haven’t been very good,' Paxton told Yahoo Sports on Wednesday. 'But I’m working on getting back to where I feel like I can be.'"
Owning that you suck is one thing... turning it around is another.
We need this guy. Hell... we need all our guys. But we need James Paxton now. So yeah, blame Cashman for not making a move at the trade deadline all you want, but here's the thing... it's not his fault. Our starters like James Paxton is getting paid handsomely to pitch well. Paxton is supposed to be our ace, or at least close to it. But that hasn't happened.
If he doesn't... he'll be crucified and eaten alive by our fan base. I'm not sure the Canadian can handle that.... do you?
