The rumors are bubbling again about a possible Andrew McCutchen trade that would land him in pinstripes. These are not new rumors but rumors that have come up again with pitchers and catchers report date only a couple of weeks away.
According to SILive this week, "One MLB insider said the Yankees still have interest in McCutchen but need other teams to step in to make the deal work. That means the Bombers don't have the players the Pirates want to make the trade work straight up." And quite frankly, I don't know if he is what we need right now.

The reason I bring this up is quite frankly fans keep asking. I get texts about this trade deal and I go onto Twitter, ESPN, and baseball analysts' feeds and check out the facts but no one's committing to anything. Even our GM Brian Cashman told YES Network's Jack Curry earlier this month with 99.9 percent plus certainty "that what we have is what we’re going to camp with, but you have to continue to stay engaged." With McCutchen's down year in 2016 both offensively and defensively, I don't know that any club wants to take the chance out right and the Pirates may have to shift him to right field and hope for the best.
At the end of December, The Daily News captured Joe Girardi's take on McCutchen's value to any team based on his tenure in baseball. “Well, there’s always a lot of talk and suggestions of what could happen,” Girardi said. “Obviously Andrew McCutchen is a very, very talented player, so I’m sure there’s 30 clubs that would love to have the services of an Andrew McCutchen.”

Sure, anything could happen, but right now, I'm happy with Matt Holliday and the balance he could add to the lineup and possibly the outfield. Let's stay focused on our young players and leave McCutchen to the rumors and at the end of the day, back in Pittsburgh.
