JETER WON'T BE AT OPENING DAY

Terrific nugget from Pete Caldera from his Pinstripe Posts blog yesterday, and something that should be told to our BYB audience. Why? Well, because it just puzzles me a bit.  After all, we already miss Derek Jeter and the dude just retired. We can't get enough of this man...

Anyway, here's Caldera's nugget:

"Derek Jeter plans to be at some international destination when the Yankees open the 2015 season on April 6 against the Blue Jays at the Stadium...

'I think I’ll actually be out of the country... I need to get away... I’ve been playing this game professionally for parts of 23 seasons. So I need to get away from it.'”

Many of us would love to see Jeter there at Opening day in Yankee Stadium, but it appears it may not be in the cards.  I'm torn about this quote to be honest.  On one hand, I get it, Jeter's done and he probably doesn't want to be back at the Stadium so soon after retirement... it would get him thinking and next thing you know, he'll be itching to get back.  So, the bottom line is, Jeter appears to have had a plan for retirement and being away from the Stadium will no doubt help him stick to it.

On the other side of the coin, it seems strange that Jeter wouldn't want to be there.  The guy has to know he's the King of New York and everyone wants a glimpse again.  What gives?

Anyway, I just wanted to share.  Once again, Caldera with an interesting nugget.

  1. "Strange that he wouldn't want to be there"? "What gives"? Jeez, selfish much? If he needs to get away, he needs to get away. It's not like he won't be back. He's getting on with the rest of his life. Get on with yours.

  2. It'll be to hard for him to be there on opening day. Give him some time and we'll see him. I'm really hoping he does come back but not as a player but as a coach. The only thing he knows is baseball so it's only fitting.
