Sure, Masahiro Tanaka had nerves today. Why wouldn't he? Could you imagine if he showed up in Tampa, faced his batters in his 35 pitches allotted and just shit the bed? It would make us all feel alittle uneasy. Luckily for us, that didn't happen.
Tanaka pitched today and threw 31 pitches. He gave up 2 singles and struck out 3. No damage was done and the Yankees won their exhibition game 4-0. Nice.
When asked about the outing, Tanaka said: "I was nervous, but it was a really good nervous... It will probably be a little bit different the next
time around, but at this point it's kind of hard to say... Everything is new to me, so for today, I was just trying to locate my pitches where the catcher was holding the glove..." That was on MLB.com. Oh, and the "catcher" was Francisco Cervelli, who was his backstop today.
Look, it's an exhibition game, but this outing was significant. Let's be happy, this could be a truly great season for our New York Yankees!
