JESUS MONTERO IS A FAT LOAD

I hate fat jokes.  I think they're obvious and stupid and serve no purpose other than to make that person feel bad about themselves. I'm also not overweight, so don't go there. I'm making a point about kindness... that's just me.

That being said, if you're a major league ball player and you're required to be "in the best shape of your life" as they say... then, you should be.

Jesus Montero is 40 pounds overweight!  Can someone tell me what the hell he's thinking? Let me guess, the PEDs were keeping him thin and now that he's off them, he gained it back? I don't get it. It's sad actually.

The Seattle Times writes: "Montero came in heavier than ever. He even admitted it, making the regrettable line: 'after winter ball, all I did was eat.'

After each season, players meet with training and medical staff to set up their offseason. Each player is given a target weight they are expected to come in at for the following season. According to sources,  Montero has never once met that target weight since joining the Mariners. This year he came in 40 pounds over the weight the Mariners wanted him to come in at.

It’s led to frustration within the organization. General manager Jack Zduriencik was particularly critical of Montero and his future.

'We are disappointed in how he came in physically,' Zduriencik said bluntly."

But it wasn't that part that was the saddest of the article.  It was the first line written by Ryan Divish that really hit home:

"Jesus Montero is the forgotten prospect. He’s no longer something to build on."

What a freaking shame.  Hopefully Montero can turn it around for his own sake.

Looks like with Michael Pineda turning heads in Tampa for the Yankees right now, we might have gotten the better end of that trade.  Who really knows until we see the guy throw, but I'm feeling alittle better about that Montero-Pineda trade right around now... what do you think?
