The Mark Teixeira "wrist injury saga" continues... and this time is doesn't have anything to do with Tex and his wrist and everything to do with Kevin Long's mouth. No, he didn't bite Tex in the wrist. Instead, he spoke out of turn and for that, Brian Cashman is pissed off... Hey, I don't blame Cash on this one.
According to CBS, "Long said Saturday night that he wasn’t sure if Teixeira’s right wrist “has been right” since coming off the disabled list on May 31." Read HERE.
Because of that, Cashman "lashed out" saying: "It’s alarming in the fact that K-Long would say that to the group of the reporters, but he never said that prior to that... This is a lot of times how things work out when things go bad, things get said. If K-Long felt that way he should have been saying that from Day 1, but we never heard that from K-Long.... Am I mad at Kevin Long because of that? No, but do I think that commentary jibes with Kevin Long’s comments internally in that clubhouse regarding this player prior to him going down? Absolutely not. … If K-Long said that, he’s a monk because he kept his mouth shut the whole time.... Some people are better with the microphone than others.”
Now Cashman has stated he's not angry at Long and sure, Cash can tell everyone that, but he is. If Cashman truly wasn't mad, that quote wouldn't exist publicly like it is. This was a signal to Long. Part of it was for him speaking out of turn, the other is that if you really wanted to point fingers... he may want to suggest that the Yankees haven't exactly been hitting lately. That my friends falls on Kevin Long. So with the frustration of the team not having the power offense they had in April, couple that with a stupid comment from Long... Long's in the hot seat, don't get it twisted.
Now, this is my interpretation. This is me, as a fan reading between the lines. The Yankees would never rush Tex back if they didn't think he should come back, that would be stupid, especially in June. Long probably should shut up next time. Oh and he should probably do his job and get my team hitting too! That's my take at least.
