With Curtis Granderson out for the next few weeks, there are a few guys that will need to step up and help fill in. I wrote about having options in the minors for the outfield position in WHO WILL FILL IN FOR GRANDERSON?
Guys like Melky Mesa continue making a great case for why they should be given the opportunity to help out. Now I wonder what the solution will be for the batting power we lose by not having Granderson. The solution really does seem simple to me. Mark Teixeira will have to step up big time.

Granderson usually provides a lot of the early season hits. His power at bats provides a good amount of the RBI’s and homers in April for the Yankees. Mark Teixeira usually has a slow start. With Granderson out, Tex will have to be consistent early on. He has to set the tempo for the rest of the line-up.
The Yankees really cannot afford for Tex to start off slow this season. Not with Granderson being out for the first month. And there is no telling how long it will take for him to heat up once he comes back from injury, but we think he is up to the challenge.

Tex has the ability to provide power hits. We saw that in 2011 when he and Granderson went on a homerun-hitting spree. I don’t exactly expect him to hit one out of the park every at bat, but I know he is capable of at least bringing runners home to score runs and going 3 for 4 every few games. We need to see Tex playing his heart out now.
Tex’s usual slow start in the season just will not do. We will need to see a lot of him batting lefty and getting runners home while Granderson is away. The good thing about Tex is that he is always willing to step up and do his part to help his team.
