HEY CANO... IT'S ABOUT REPUTATION, NOT RICHES

The smartest thing Robinson Cano can do right now is tell his agent, Scott Boras not to destroy his relationship with the New York Yankees organization, us Yankee fans and his reputation.  We've seen it time and time again; Boras comes in, guns blazing, demanding all types of deals and then teams are turned off or other teams swoop in and pay huge money for his clients only to become liabilities over their long term deal and essentially destroying this great game I love. Plus, their reputation as being greedy bastards creep in and they never can repair it.  No, Boras isn't the only one, but let's face it, he started it and I am positive at this point that many teams are starting to smarten up to it, which is why a lot of Boras clients didn't end up signing big deals this off season, where in years past, they would have.

Enter Robinson Cano and his contract talks with the Yankees.  Now, reading that Jose Cano, Robinson's father is pretty sure  that Cano will re-sign with the Yankees (Read HERE)... I say one thing about that... Never believe anything a relative says about their professional ballplayer family member. Why? Because the bottom line is, no one knows truly knows what Robinson Cano will do, just he and just Boras.  The only one that needs to run this show is Cano and right now, Scott Boras is holding the cards.  Sure, Jose can believe in his gut that Cano will come back to New York after this season, but if Boras is the agent, you just need to cross your fingers. He can be a big trigger happy.  Boras is the agent, and you know what? When you are dealing with a player like Cano, it scares the hell out of me to think that Boras could actually ruin Robbie.  Sure, he'll try and make him the highest player ever in baseball, but to me personally, it all goes back to reputation.  Robinson Cano has got to think about that, even when there is big money and big years staring him in the face.  Reputation for Robbie is key and all I'm saying is, when it comes right down to it, I hope he chooses less years and the Yankees instead of big money... and the Dodgers... and a tarnished reputation full of selfishness and greed.  That will be truly disappointing to me, because God forbid he does and he's a Dodger for life and sucking the life out of their finances because he was selfish, Boras will already be moved onto another player, ruining their life... and reputation.  Bottom line, these players need to think for themselves... come on Robbie, this deal with the Yanks is common sense. Do it!

By the way, Erica Morales has a great piece on Cano tomorrow morning, so be sure to look for it here at Bleeding Yankee Blue.
