Over the past few years Bleeding Yankee Blue has had quite a few writers. Several have been permanentfixtures, some have come and gone, others are guests. Allthe while, we try to bring you entertaining stuff and at the same time sneak inalittle pop culture. We also like to make you laugh and sure, sometimes we getfrustrated and need to vent. We try tonever make any of it personal. I have aproblem with "personal." No Mom jokes…I hatemom jokes.
But in our busy world, it’s getting busier and I am now looking for2 writers that can help me out. I amlooking for 2 writers who can help split our recap duties. There are 7 days in a week, right? I need 1 writerto write 3 recaps and 1 writer to write the other 3 for the games. Myself or 1 of our permanent writers will do the other. It’s also a weekly thing and itwill last until the end of the regular season. During the playoffs, those writers, and our writers will share the duties.
So you’re reading this and you’re thinking “What can youoffer me BYB?” I can offer you aBleedingyankeeblue.com shirt for starters. Any money we generate here will go into a pot and will be redistributedinto future merchandise for a future charity we choose, much like we’ve donefor High Socks for Hope this year. Nextyear, we plan on doing it again with another product and another charity.
But it’s not only the shirt, you can a chance to bepublished. If you’re looking to break into the business, and you want to be a writer and you need a body ofwork, you will have one here. I will also be a reference for you. You also could have a future gig here. After the season ends, if you areinterested in staying on with BYB and we like what you’re providing, we could bring you aboard.
Look, this gig is a grind. I have a full life outside of this, but I made a promise to a few BYBreaders back when we didn’t get read at all… I said as long as this stays fun,you have a family at BYB. You can wakeup, have your coffee and see what we're talked about for the day. We bring you news, we make you smile. We like providing our experiences, our flairand our fun with you. Remember, we don’ttake ourselves too seriously, but we do believe our opinion matters.
So, back to the writing gig…if you’re interested, thecontest is simple, starting tonight, take it seriously, pretend you havea deadline for BYB. The rules are simple:
- Watch the game
- Write a recap andsend it to me after the game is complete
- If I post your work,you win.
The process is simple, send a recap with some of the notesfrom that game, be specific but do NOT be wordy. Make it conversational, not boring. Include pop culture if you can but don’tforce it. At the end, give the final score, and most of all, have fun withit. If it’s your recap that goes up after tonight's game, you win and if MY recap goes up tonight, a new contest starts tomorrow and we try again. Once the 1st winner is chosen, we will be looking for a second writer and the process starts all over. Once both writers are chosen, we'll make a schedule.
- Submit your work to Bleednyankeeblu@gmail.com.
- In the subject, write RECAP WRITING CONTEST.
- After your recap, write your name or “pen” name and an emailwhere I can reach you.
Again, if your recap goes up, you win and you will then bethrown into the duties of a BYB writer…oh what a world it is!
Good luck and have fun with this.
