Monday was the second game of a two game set held in the new Miami Marlins ballpark. The Yankees were able to out slug the Fish on Sunday, but the Yanks were able to out pitch the Marlins to complete the two-game sweep winning 5-2.Hiroki Kuroda started this one, and he was impressive, going 3 innings, allowing just one run on three hits, two strikeouts, and just one walk. Kuroda’s had a nice spring, pitching to a 2.92 ERA. He’ll start the second game of the season after CC Sabathia on the 7th at the Trop versus the Rays.
After Boone Logan and Rafael Soriano pitched the fourth, Phil Hughes came in and dominated. He pitched four scoreless innings, allowing five hits, while striking out four and walking just one. He had a great fastball and showed great command of it. I’m excited for Phil and I believe he’ll have a big year. He’ll make his season debut the day after Kuroda makes his against the Rays on the 8th. Following Hughes was David Robertson. Houdini pitched a scoreless 9th and he picked up the save.
The Yankees will play a home-and-home two game series against the Mets on Tuesday with the first at Port St. Lucie. Regular season baseball is this close and I can taste it!
