WHY LEE'S JEALOUS

Look, everyone knows my love for Cliff Lee, I like that he’s a relaxed lefty pitcher that never seems to let anything get to him. He goes out there on his day and just chucks it.

That being said, I cannot ignore this ignorant statement from Lee. It may in fact be the stupidest line I’ve ever read, especially now that we just got a dose of our Yankee youth, 18 and 19 year olds throwing 95 mph in Spring Training. Read this:

“I felt like with what the Red Sox had done and it seems like some of the Yankee guys are getting older, but I liked the Rangers.” (Hardball Talk)

Between him and Carl Crawford, I don’t know who I’m more annoyed with. Yes, both athletes are great, both would have helped the New York Yankees, but if there’s one thing the Yankees are not, it’s old. Sure, the Core 3 are nearing the end of their careers, but there is youth all over the place, between Cano, to Montero, to Gardy and Hughes and the Killer B’s. Are you kidding me? I’m really not sure Cliff Lee knows what he’s talking about, do you? Manny Banuelos turns 20 Sunday. He will be the number 2 rotation guy by 2014, right? He hasn’t turned 40, yet, has he? Is Cliff Lee paying attention to anything other than a cheese steak and his Roy Halladay poster?

Cliff, take a second, crack open a newspaper, any newspaper and read about the youngsters the Yankees are about the reveal come 2012 and beyond. It will make you jealous. Just think Cliff, if you signed with New York, youth would be all around you.

Yes, it’s true, you wouldn’t have those great youngsters like Roy Halladay (33), Danys Baez (33), Jose Contreras (39), Chase Utley (33) and Raul Ibanez (38) on your Yankee team, but hey, you’d have a solid team with a chance to win another ring. But, you’re right, you want a young team… not the old Yanks… got it.

By the way, the Philadelphia Phillies are the oldest team in baseball. The Yankees are the 9th oldest. (Thank you Hardball Talk’s Craig Calcaterra!)

You’re a genius Cliff, clearly not winning.
