SEVERINO... SPOT ON!

Luis Severino took the mound on day 152 of the 2019 season and he did it confidently, like the old Sevy who assumed the role of stud in the Yankee rotation.  His presence was electric and after throwing back to back strikeouts to end second inning, Sevy was spot on.

"Severino faced 15 batters Tuesday night, allowed nine balls in play, and his average exit velocity allowed was a mere 83.1 mph. Only two of those nine batted balls had an exit velocity north of 90 mph. That's stellar," reported CBS Sports.

His smile following his final pitch proved that the hard rehab he put in, avoiding season ending surgery, was all worth it.  "Severino threw 67 pitches Tuesday night and generated nine swings and misses, or a well-above-average 13.4 percent. That includes seven misses on 21 swings against his fastball. Severino's career swing-and-miss rate is 11.8 percent and that's more or less where he was Tuesday," reported CBS Sports.

His command was crisp and fast ball right where it needed to be between 94-95 with his last one at 98 mph.  This was an important outing for the Yankee ace and the team as they wind down the season and look ahead to the post season.

According to the NY Post, "Severino could have two more starts before the playoffs begin and it remains to be seen if he gets built all the way back up to 90-100 pitches, but he looks ready to provide a boost to the pitching staff just in time for the playoffs."

An exciting night in the Bronx for the Yankees and Severino.  He erased a lot of question marks as he cruised through four innings and lifted the Yankees' moral as they set sail for the last two weeks of regular season.

  1. Sevy looked great but let's remember there was no Trout , Ohtani or Upton.
He did keep Simmons from a usual Yankee homerun .
He did look very good and I would take this as a GIANT step, providing he doesn't report today with an injury ala Betances .
Sevy , Paxton , Tanaka and German make a great playoff rotation.
