And trust me... every other team that has the resources will do it too.

Not a big headline, it's more of the same, but it's the Mariners, so you gotta take it seriously.

Hardball Talk writes:

"Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto, debuting a new weekly podcast with club broadcaster Aaron Goldsmith, made no effort to hide his team's eagerness to recruit Shohei Ohtani now that there's a posting process in place to allow the Japanese two-way star to pursue a Major League career.

Dipoto said the Mariners have been preparing their pitch for the 23-year-old Ohtani for more than a year now, and the GM believes the franchise's history with Japanese players could be a significant factor...

'To me, the worst thing we can be is sitting on the sideline being too conservative, sitting on our hands when an opportunity to change the history of the organization comes along. Because this is what this might be.'"

Nothing new here.  Every GM with money is gonna say this. It's just that the Mariners are a team that really, really want Ohtani, and this is worth reporting.

Stay tuned.
