The 2 guys you didn't expect are the 2 guys that made things happen tonight in Houston for the Yankees. I say this... Good for them and Go Yanks!
The Yanks finally needed a win and luckily for us, the bottom part of the order was able to deliver while guys like Alfonso Soriano still struggle. Now, I have no real issue with a player going 0-11 in the first 3 games of the season. I wouldn't be too angry with them going 0-18 right about now either, as much as it would suck, I understand getting into a routine and I know guys like Soriano will break out of it. At some point, they are major league hitters and they need to start delivering. I was breaking Brendan Kuty of the Star Ledgers balls earlier tonight about just that. Here's that exchange on Twitter:
@BrendanKutyNJ @MissYankee Come on Kuty. Let the dude get into a routine!

@BleednYankeeBlu @MissYankee Not taking shots at him. Just saying 0-for-11 is rough.
— Brendan Kuty (@BrendanKutyNJ) April 4, 2014
The truth is, Kuty was taking shots, but he can't admit he's taking shots because he's a Star Ledger beat writer... he's not allowed. But tonight, on a night where the Yankees lost 2 in a row to the Astros, they knew the importance of winning... and they did. Ichiro Suzuki was 2-4 tonight with 2 runs scored. Yangervis Solarte was 3-3 tonight with 2 runs scored and an RBI. They ran the table... and it was nice to see.
In the 3rd, Brett Gardner knocked Ichiro home. Then Carlos Beltran sacrificed to center and knocked Solarte home.
In the 5th, Derek Jeter knocked in Solarte again. In the 7th, Solarte singled on a pop up and Ichiro scored.
Ivan Nova went 5.2 innings tonight. He gave up 6 hits and 2 runs. David Robertson was able to get his first save. At this point... life is good in Yankeeland. I'm happy with what I see, aren't you?
Final tonight: Yankees 4 - Astros 2.
Sleep tight Yankee fans... we got a W.
