Just a quick note if you follow or stalk what is going on down in the minors like I do....the Yankees are making some interesting moves or maybe questionable is a better answer at this point. Not to cause panic here, but there is something to be said for being strategic, right?
So we already know that Eduardo Nunez was designated for assignment yesterday, read that HERE in case you missed it. I figured if we didn't trade or just cut him we would at least stash him down in AAA in case something happened (god forbid). Not to say that is what would happen but it is a possibility, right? Well now the plot gets thicker.....
The AAA season is also getting under way soon but now the infield is a little bit slimmer. According to Donnie Collins, the RailRiders just released utility infielder Addison Maruszak read that HERE. So, you may be asking...."Ok so what Jeana? What is the big deal?"Well, if Nunez is released there is some serious lack of depth down in AAA. Who the heck is supposed to play shortstop?! At this point my guess would be Zelous Wheeler but in all seriousness....the AAA roster just took a hit.
It's a good thing the AAA season is still a few days away because Dave Miley is going to have some holes to fill. Granted, things can change very quickly but this affects the RailRiders as well as the Yankees. I hope and pray at this point that Derek Jeter really stays healthy because with Brendan Ryan on the disabled list the Yankees don't have a good backup plan right now. Not only that, but I want to see the RailRiders be successful in their season too. I know I like minor league titles too after all.
If nothing else this should really prove to us how important it is to develop our talent from within and have good depth within our own organization. So come on Yankees, time to lock and reload....no one likes being caught with their pants down!
Not the image I was intending to leave you with but, you get the picture. We will keep you posted.
