IT'S "GAME ON" FOR THE NEW YORK YANKEES

Reflecting on the Yankees season after they have won the Division is easy. All the pain and inconsistency goes away. You think alittle clearer and feel alittle better about things, especially after a 14-2 victory over the rival Red Sox. I watched Bobby closely on Wednesday night. He was a beaten down man... alone. It sucks when you know you're not wanted. That was what his body language and face said.
But this wasn't about Bobby V at all, although he'd want you to think it was. No, it was about our New York Yankees. It's about a team that despite plenty of problems, managed to stay in first place for quite a while this season. As far as the season goes, I tip my cap to the Baltimore Orioles who played tough as nails...my God, did they ever. Luckily they came down to earth a bit and hopefully with the Yankees getting hot at the right time, everything in the past becomes irrelevant. From this point forward it's a new season.

I'll tell you what, watching the celebration is fun. Watching our boys enjoying themselves makes it all worth it. Joba said it best the other night saying that they had a great leader "in Derek". He's right and I love that these players understand the iconic energy that surrounds them. No one understands the pinstripes more than Joba Chamberlain these days. He literally could have been cut loose after his trampoline accident, but instead the Yankees circled the wagons and made him feel like a family member that made a mistake. They could have turned their back on him, but they didn't. They embraced him and in the end, it paid off.

But back to the Yankees as a team. How amazing have we been lately and how much better can we get this post season?  A lot better. Why? Because when a team clicks, they click. I often think about the Red Sox of 2004. Yes, it may have been one of the most heartbreaking moments ever as a Yankee fan, but there's a point here, trust me. The Red Sox had their backs against the wall in 2004. All we needed to do was win 1 more game following our 19-8 stomping of them in Game 3. Then, something happened...the Red Sox woke up and didn't lose again the entire post season and they did something I didn't expect to see in my lifetime, they won the World Series.  Why am I telling you this?
Because I feel like the Yankees woke up. With a chunk of their players returning from injury and so many of them, Robinson Cano, Ichiro, Derek Jeter, Russell Martin and Curtis Granderson getting into a groove and our pitching totally complimenting them, I see the same run happening. We can actually win this thing.

So buckle in Yankee fans, tonight CC Sabathia goes for us against the Balitmore Orioles, a gritty team with alot of guts.  But we can't worry about them...we need to worry about us, and we will.

Go Yanks!
