Romine's catching ability could only get better, and over time, he will emerge as a leader, much like many believed Jesus Montero would in the Bronx. The reason? He has drive and dedication that was overlooked when Montero was in town, and trust me, if Romine starts hitting, there is no doubt that he will emerge as the future of this franchise. Austin is the son of Kevin Romine, a former ballplayer himself. Romine's been around baseball all his life. Austin knows what it takes to make it and stay there, no doubt, he will if the Yankees give him a chance. Now, many are suggesting Francisco Cervelli should be the Yankees backup to Russell Martin in 2012. I disagree. I believe that over time, maybe by the trade deadline, Francisco Cervelli will be traded for pitching stability of bench help down the stretch. I believe Romine should be Martin's backup, a way to keep Romine in the Bigs and teach him the ropes. That makes sense to me at least. (Read WHY CERVELLI COULD BE TRADED THIS WINTER.) Sure, the time frame of when I believe Cervelli could be traded may be off, but the idea of him being traded is bound to happen in my opinion.
Bottom line, we need to rally now Ladies and Gentleman, we need to rally behind the new hope in the Yankee future... Austin Romine. He's a tough kid and he fits the mold of heart and guts, the Yankee way. Check out this video from the Trentonian of Romine at work:
