I am not looking to be the rain clouds on the good news in the Bronx, but I have to offer up an opinion on the trade for Aroldis Chapman. I know that the young man throws with the might of Zeus. 103mph is truly frightening, and I’m glad the Yanks won’t have to face this guy…but I have a HUGE problem with the Bronx Bullpen’s newest member.
I wasn’t there. I don’t know what happened between Chapman and his girlfriend. All I know is that it was enough to make the Dodgers, WHO NEED A CLOSER almost as much as much as Los Angeles needs water, nix the deal to acquire the powerful lefty. All I know is that a man NEVER should raise his hand to a woman. EVER! Nope, there aren’t exceptions. No. Yeah, not even if said woman is 6ft 4, 250 and beating the tar out of you…just take the beating or try to out run her.
Is my thinking on the subject old fashioned? I don’t think so…and what’s more, I DON’T CARE. I didn’t root for David Justice when he was in pinstripes…and he was a big part of a Championship run. He hit his wife…Haley Berry should’ve been given Dave’s Louisville Slugger and taken her husband to the woodshed. I’m not kidding.
I am tired of seeing professional athletes slip past the punishment they deserve. Is taking HGH a major no no in Major League Baseball? Yes. Should abusing women be more so? ABSO-F’N-LUTELY!! It should be considered a MORTAL SIN! If doping gets you suspended and betting gets you banned…hitting a wife, girlfriend or one night stand SHOULD GET YOU JAILED!
Again, I sorry to have to pop the “Bullpen Balloon”, but wrong is wrong...a mutt's a mutt.
** NO song this time. Needless to say I won’t have a Chapman jersey…plus 54 BELONGS TO THE GOOSE. **

ReplyDeleteAthletes or anyone else for that matter (politicians, etc.) should not be given a pass because they entertain us or win championships. Character should be high on the list of priorities when we select people to represent us. We should ignore bullies and bad character, whatever form it takes.
