I know it's only May, but weren't we supposed to be the worst team in 2013?
"1. New York Yankees finish last in AL East.
It hasn’t happened in 22 years, since the Yankees finished 67-95
and seven games in back of the Milwaukee Brewers, but the Yankees could
very easily go from first in 2012 to worst in 2013. And, with the
American League’s largest payroll, there is additional pressure to win
in addition to their own high standards of success."
That quote is from Jim Bowden of ESPN. It was based on a prediction piece he did. I bitched about that piece in DON'T COUNT THE YANKEES OUT LIKE ESPN DID because I thought predicting in March what could happen during a long season is the most ridiculous prediction of all. Now, we all know, anything can happen. Hell, the Yanks could fall apart tomorrow for all we know. I'm just bringing this back in the forefront because it was silly then and it's really silly now. And is where's Bowden now? He's getting paid for that prediction piece. Look, Bowden does good work, I'm not ranking on him specifically as much as I am his dumb piece predictions or any of those prediction pieces. It serves no purpose, it never does. I just wanted to remind everyone that despite the injuries, despite the age...
We're in first place this morning. Sometimes it's better to be a fan than a writer. Sometimes you just believe in your team and real things happen. Many times, we don't bet against our team. Maybe Jim Bowden should be a Yankee fan.
Food for thought, enjoy your Friday.
