YANKEE RUMORS & BYB: PART 26

Vladimir Guerrero: I think it’s funny that it’s being reported that the Yankees received a call from Vlad Guerrero about a DH job. Not because it’s Vlad, I like Vlad. No, it’s because I wrote a light piece about the idea of Vlad in pinstripes last year and was practically crucified for it. I was merely asking the question in WHY I LIKE BENCH VETERANS and no one wanted to hear it, yet today, it’s news. God I love the Internet. Look, Vlad is older, but he can still hit. I’ve always have liked him, but if you’re going to look at Vlad, it would almost be smarter to go with what you know… Johnny Damon or Hideki Matsui. They’re all the same, although, Damon runs a lick more. No, I don’t think Vlad’s coming to the Yankees, but it’s fun to think about. Read that report HERE though.

Cole Hamels: John Boggs, Hamels agent made it clear to Bob Nightengale of USA today (HERE) that they are setting their sights on free agency after Hamels just signed his 1 year deal with the Phillies for $15 million. That means one thing, the Yankees are going to be all over that action at the end of the 2012 season. Hamels is a terrific pitcher and he’s a proven winner… he has a championship ring with the Phillies. There is no doubt in my mind that the Yankees push hard for this guy if things don’t work out for them this season with the pitchers they have. Stay tuned for this one next winter… it could be fun to mess with Philly a bit.

Billy Butler: He's 25 and can hit home runs. For about 4 minutes there was a rumor on Twitter the other day that Billy Butler was traded to the Yankees for Phil Hughes. It was shortly after the Michael Pineda / Jesus Montero deal so, needless to say, I was willing to accept it at that moment. Read it HERE. The question is, where did that rumor come from and would it be possible that Billy Butler could even come to the Yankees? To be honest, I haven't heard much of it since then, but the idea is definitely an interesting one. Stay tuned for that.
