NATIONALS WIN THE WORLD SERIES!

It's a better story than the Astros winning. The Astros always win. The Astros are more cocky... they have ego. The Nationals? They don't have that. They have a great pitching staff and a few old timers named Zimmerman and Kendrick and a bunch of scrappy young players.  A nice blend, a nice story... congrats to the Nats!

My best part of Game 7? When the homers happened. Howie Kendrick and Anthony Rendon launched some pretty timely homers to put Nationals ahead.

Once that happened, Joe Buck was no longer excited. Obviously because the Astros weren't winning.
I tweeted this... just because I think Buck may be the worst TV personality there is.
I'm just thrilled the Nats pulled it off!

Congrats boys! Way to go!

SHOT THROUGH THE HEART

I hated the way things ended last night.

Of all people, it was Ryan Zimmerman to lift the Nationals over our New York Yankees in extra innings.  I didn't see it coming, although, it wasn't out of the ordinary for Zimmerman to do something heroic. Then again... we have Andrew Miller... the guy's been on fire.

Last night, that changed.  Hey, for a baseball guy like myself... it's this "stuff" that makes the sport wonderful.  For me, the Yankee fan, it sucked. It totally sucked. I was shot through the heart.

By the way, the chocolate sauce celebration? Ridiculous. It's like a dessert porno of chubby foodies who like sports... what the hell is going on here? That's another post for another time... and trust me, it's coming. Get it?

The Yankees showed life and fight last night, but don't mess with the Nationals.  The Nats scored first, 2 in the first inning. We scored 4 in the 4th. Chris Young singled in Ellsbury.  Then Chase Headley doubled in a run. Next, it was Stephen Drew knocking in 2.

We scored 2 more in the 5th on a Mark Teixeira 2 run homer. The Nationals clawed back though, scoring 3 in the bottom of that inning. Then another until it was tied up.  At this point, we needed to wait for the 10th.

We did nothing... Zimmerman and the Nationals beat us in a walk-off.  Unreal.

Nothing more to say... oh yeah, there is; Jacoby Ellsbury is on the DL... oh goodie.  Remember when I wrote IT'S BECAUSE OF ELLSBURY THAT WE NEED ICHIRO?

Just sayin'.

Final: Nationals 8 - Yankees 6

JOE TORRE IS MAKING WORLD SERIES DREAMS COME TRUE

Some people ask me why I am still so in tune with the postseason considering that the Yankees are not part of it. Sometimes, you read things and they move you. You can be reminded that there is more to it then just taking a bat and swinging at a ball. It's not just a game. Well....at least I don't think so. After reading this story now, I am convinced of it more than ever.

I'm not a big twitter person, but this morning when I read a tweet that Bleacher Report posted it brought a tear to my eye. I have a lot of memories of watching baseball, especially ones where the Yankees are playing in the World Series and it was just a normal part of life. I don't appreciate it the same way no after reading THIS article. I think this is the best thing that can possibly be reported on during the World Series. Even after all is said and done....this little boy will have memories for years to come that can never be replaced.

Noah Wilson is fighting for a much more important than a World Series trophy. He is really sick and after reading about Noah's story I wanted to know more about what he was facing. Ewing Sarcoma is not a form of cancer I personally didn't know a lot about until today. In fact, I hadn't heard about it at all. The fact that this is the second most common form of cancer for young children according to Stjude.org yet is still classified as "rare" really brought tears to my eyes especially since a lot of the symptoms are things that can so easily be dismissed. It's puts everything in perspective.

This World Series was already special because the Kansas City Royals were finally back in it after being away since 1985. Now, they are back in it and have a little boy hoping for them to succeed as he fights his own battle.

Ryan Zimmerman was already working to raising the money to help the Wilson family get to the World Series to cheer on his Royals. His efforts were already helping raise awareness and Joe Torre was able to take that one step further by inviting the Wilson family as a personal guest to enjoy the game so he could save that money raised for later.

THESE are the stories we should be hearing more about in sports. It's not all about winning for the team. It's about the message, the journey, and the perseverance that matters. It's a life lesson. It's about going the extra mile like Zimmerman and Torre did.

It's an important message to remember as we all turn on our televisions tonight and watch the World Series. We watch for the entertainment, but being part of the experience will mean even more to the Wilson family. Even if you aren't following the World Series this year, how can this not tug at your heart? To Noah and his family, I hope you enjoy your special day and you get your win both on and off of the field!

THE YANKEES WIN THE MARATHON WHEN TEIXEIRA COMES UP BIG

These Yankees, Nationals games have been very good. I'm really enjoying them. What a battle today. I'm thrilled the Yankees came out on top.

It all started with Andy Pettitte who pitched great today. He pitched 7 strong innings, he allowed 5 hits and only 2 runs. He did not factor into the decision because Cory Wade gave up a home run and the Nats tied it up.

Look, Cory Wade and the rest of the gang have pitched great. Wade just made a mistake pitched, I ain't mad at him. Think of it this way, the Nationals were only held to 3 runs. Meanwhile, so were the Yankees until they finally exploded in the 14th. More on that in a moment.

One disappointing moment was Derek Jeter today. 0-6 and he didn't look too good until he worked the count in the 14th and finally got a hit to go 1-7. that hit was huge...that also in a moment. Another disappointing moment was when Nick Swisher was tagged out at home and it turns out he had a bone bruise. I suspect he'll be day to day. That stinks. Andruw Jones and DeWayne Wise did a good job in the outfield filling in.And look, I love watching Bryce Harper play, I think he's a true talent. But he strikes out 5 times today in the game and I need tell you...as a Yankee fan, that's just terrific. You never want to see this guy do damage against your team. Way to go Clay Rapada who came in specifically to pitch to Harper and succeeded and then later, great pitching by Freddy Garcia to strike him out in the 13th.

One more thing, that top of the 11th inning was great for Ryan Zimmerman and the Nationals. He made 2 really great defensive plays at 3rd base, plays that other third baseman may not be able to make, pretty impressive. Unfortunately for him, that throwing error he made in the 12th inning could have cost him. I mean it didn't because in the end of that inning, the Yankees do what they do best, they stranded 2 as Chris Stewart struck out to end the inning but they could have capitalized. Now to the 14th...it was huge for the Yankees. With Jayson Nix on base, Derek Jeter really worked the count and finally had a base hit and with 2 on base, Mark Teixeira came up big with a 2 run double. Really nice and a very big inning.

Final Score today: Yankees 5 - Nationals 3. Freddy Garcia gets the Win, Soriano gets the save. Don't look now, but we've won 8 in a row.
