"NASTY NATE" NOW "TERRIBLE"
God, it's been a see-saw all season in every single aspect of the New York Yankees, hasn't it? The latest is the removal of Nathan Eovaldi from the starting rotation. It's crazy to think that last season Eovaldi was 14-3, and this season, he's 6-6, gives up homers and just doesn't to seem to have any command whatsoever.
And so, the Yankees have pulled Eovaldi, made up some insane story about how there's a better spot for him in the "bridge" to the 3 headed monster, and this will happen through the All-Star Break. Eovaldi, who's a team player will help the team do anything to win, is obviously frustrated:
"I started as a starter and I want to finish as a starter."
But the bottom line is, if you're not performing, what's a team to do? He's got to turn it around and maybe this is the move the Yankees need to make. Andrew Marchand wrote this in his latest piece on Eovaldi... and I found it pointed, but very interesting:
"The Yankees are desperate, so rookie Chad Green is the latest life raft. Green, 25, pitched fantastic at Triple-A, leading the International League with a 1.54 ERA. Green, just a year younger than Eovaldi, pitched well in San Diego on Sunday in his second major league start, firing 95 mph fastballs, going six innings, allowing just a solo home run among three hits, while striking out eight and walking none.
It was reminiscent of how Eovaldi looked in a seven-start stretch from the end of April until the end of May when the 100 mph-throwing Texan had a 2.72 ERA and was many times dominant.
He has not maintained that look. In his last six starts, he has a 9.20 ERA. Now, he is no longer in the rotation.
Eovaldi is another starter who has gone backward under pitching coach's Larry Rothschild's watch. This year's additions include Eovaldi and Luis Severino, who was a rookie sensation last year and is now stuck in the minors."
And that raises another question... maybe Rothschild just doesn't "have it" anymore when it comes to molding young pitching? We have 2 major casualties with Sevy and Eovaldi just not performing at the pro level, and let me go further. While CC Sabathia has had a nice little run this season, even he's seemed to lose whatever worked for him as a veteran. Look, it's gotta fall on someone, and Rothschild may not be doing his job. Too many pitchers are having too many problems. It's an interesting way of viewing this.
Whatever the case, Chad Green will get the ball in Nate's place. While I think that's a worse idea... I don't really know what the Yankees options are until maybe the trade deadline.
We are running out of time. We need to do something if we want to make a legit run. Know what I mean?
