Curtis Granderson is back! Sure, he returned the other night as Mark Feinsand of the New York
Daily News reported HERE, but last night he homered and now, according to BYB... it's official.
Granderson is in his final year of his contract. We don't know yet
what the future may hold for Curtis out in the free agent market. He
missed a very large chunk of the year on the disabled list, and we felt
it big time. It wasn't the contract year we or Curtis had hoped for. We
could have used those home runs and power, and Robinson Cano could have
used the protection as well. But unfortunately things don't always work
out the way we plan. Too bad there is no such thing as a "do over" in
baseball, because we all wish we could have a different 2013 season.
Hey, que sera, sera. Curtis has 8 weeks to make a statement not just for
the team, but for himself should he have teams request his services for
next year. Sure, 8 weeks seems like it's not a lot of time but there
are plenty of ball games in that span to make something happen.

I would
imagine Joe Girardi will slot him into CF and give Brett and Alfonso a
few days off here and there going into the final stretch to keep them
rested.
Do I think it's the final run for Curtis? It is hard to say, and I
am not at the controls for what the team will or won't do. I'm sure
many would like to see Curtis come back next season, but given the fact that the
first priority is to retain Robinson Cano, that could leave little room
to give Granderson his due. There could be a scenario where the Yankees
make him a qualifying offer to let him build his value back up for a
year.
No one knows exactly for sure what will happen, and I don't have a
crystal ball. But let's just enjoy whatever it is we get from Curtis, and that home run last night was a nice start!
It's been a fun run
with you here, Curtis. No matter what happens after, we want you to
know we appreciated you here in the Bronx.
