The New York Daily News had a piece up this alittle while ago in reference to our old friend Eric Chavez. The message? Chavez is going to give 2013 a shot, but who will be the team to take a chance on him?
According to Anthony McCarron, Chavez's agent Scott Leventhal, made it clear..."'Chavy has no intention of retiring,' Leventhal said. 'We have spoken to and met with multiple clubs regarding his future in baseball.'
Asked about the Yankees' potential involvement, Leventhal declined comment, as well as comment about any other specific teams.
Yanks' GM Brian Cashman acknowledged Friday that he will look for insurance for the club's aging left side of the infield. Asked whether he knew if Chavez planned to play or perhaps retire, Cashman said, 'That I'm not aware of, either way.'"
Hey look, Eric Chavez is only 34 years old. He did some really great stuff for the Yankees the past 2 years, he knows his role and I'd love to have him back, but I can't help but think Brian Cashman has another plan.
Plus, there seems to be no serious contact between the Yankees and Raul Ibanez and Ichiro Suzuki either, so I'm not going to sit here and tell you I have it all figured out...I don't.
Bottom line, Leventhal says that Chavez is in contact with multiple clubs and so... much like Ichiro, we will see.
Anyway, you can read McCarron's piece HERE.
